The ships engineers have also got allocated marine engineering jobs as well as their engine room watch keeper duties. These jobs are normally allocated by the Second Engineer, who spreads the workload between himself and the other senior engineers. These extra duties can normally be carried out during the watch, leaving a junior engineer at the control station/room; the senior engineer being contacted immediately if any emergency arises.
